Our home is a true Victorian. Built in 1880 it sits on .62 acre deep lot in downtown Northville, Michigan. A wooded picturesque shallow creek runs all along the back of the properties on Randolph Street on the North side of the properties. Wildlife abounds including deer, ducks and lots of little critters. The property is covered with large mature walnut, maple, and redbud trees. Many ornamental trees and a beautiful rare River Birch decorate a beautifully situated front yard on desirable Randolph Street just two or three blocks from the center of town - a short walk to everything. The house sits far off the street giving it privacy and street appeal.
The house is, of course, old and registered as “historical” and is listed as one of the “contributing” homes to the much desired historical significance of Northville. This list was completed and made public in 2021. It has been owned by the same family for many decades. It has never had a major renovation. The original clawfoot tub still sits in the upstairs bathroom and original french doors still separate the two living rooms. The kitchen has two large doorwalls overlooking the large deck and huge sloping back yard. There is a red barn type two door garage at the bottom of the property that is used for storage but is easily removed for a full view of the property. The barn is of no historical signifance so it can be removed. This property is in the heart of downtown Northville and surrounded by beautiful homes and churches.
Northville schools are ranked among the highest rated in Michigan. We have several elementary and two middle. schools schools scattered through the city and township and one huge and beautiful high school. All of our high school students are in the same place so we know where to find them at any time. The high school is completely monitored at all times to outside visitors.
Northville is a friendly little town of about 6000 residents. It is a non-judgmental community. It is a dog loving community. It is a wildlife loving community It is a music loving community. It is an ice cream eating community. It is a fine food loving community. It is a tree hugger community. The people here love smoothies, wine and spirits. There are two churches, a brewery, a cigar bar, a CVS drugstore and a Kroger store within one block of this house. The American Legion Hall is just down the street from us. If you love to play poker they have Charity Poker certain days a week. Friday nights during spring and summer there is a concert of some sorts (entertainment) in the town square so grab your kids and dogs and just hang out downtown. Your home can either be your quiet retreat from the world or you can get involved in the social life and politics of the town. It’s up to you. The house is sitting on a very rare huge and beautiful lot with an awesome setting and privacy. It has never been torn apart and completely renovated which is the reason it it considered a historically contributing home to the historical community. It is in a neighborhood of many different sizes and types of homes and two churches making it a wonderful and diverse area to live. Below is the an appraisal done in 2018 where it's appraisal value was placed at $550.000 and was declared in very good and well maintained condition. The aerial view shows it's placement in the area.
You will love Northville and the privacy of the lot and the house. It has not changed hands for about 65 years. It's unique and one of a kind and just waiting for new owners to put their own personality into it. As part of the Historical District you can receive information and suggestions from the Historical Commission but you are bound by few rules. You cannot tear the house down but you can take it right down to the studs and start from scratch inside. You can also build on if you desire. Because of the size of the lot you won't be limited as to size of the house you want to create. You will be required to keep the character of the outside of the house. If you love old houses you will love this house. If you like new houses you can make everything new inside while enjoying the extraordinary location just one block from a thriving small town - rich in history, social events, safety for our children, and diversity. There is a lot of privacy on this large lot. There are not many of this type of property right in town. With a huge kitchen with doorwalls overlooking your property, two living rooms (living room and parlor), a downstairs bedroom with a small bathroom (needs renovation) overlooking the back yard with access to the deck, another bedroom door giving you access to a small porch off thee bedroom there is plenty of room if you don't want to build on. Upstairs are two good sized bedrooms, a large bathroom with a clawfoot tub (not used for 50 years) and a very interesting and pleasant large attic with huge wood plank floors with the original little window to the back yard.
